Evangelicals believe that God is constantly monitoring your thoughts, and is listening to everything you think about, examining it and tallying up any sins you may have about.
Here’s an excerpt from Jesus’s sermon on the mount:
You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Matthew 5:27-28 (NIV)
Jesus is saying that just the act of thinking about sin is a sin. You don’t actually have to commit it, just simply thinking about it is enough.
This put me into a constant state of paranoia. Was me just questioning in my head that I might be LGBT a sin? Was questioning if this was true a sin? Did I just sin again by asking that question in my head? 😟
